A TRIBUTE TO OUR FOUNDER:
Robert S. Wilkins, 79, passed away on November 7, 1997 at his home in Wildwood, NJ.Bob had
always been in love with flowers. His lifetime hobby of gardening was the basis for the
dream that became a reality......"Delaware Valley Wholesale Florist, Inc."He was
surrounded by flowers for most of his life. After his tour of duty in the Navy, Bob became
a floral grower. He had several greenhouses and sold his flowers to wholesalers in the
Philadelphia market. After several years, one of the floral wholesalers asked him to
become a flower salesman for their company. He excelled in this position. Bob and his
wife, Doris, gave much thought to starting their own wholesale florist business in South
Jersey. |
| When the decision was made, they sold their home, purchased a
truck, leased a small building in Pitman, New Jersey, and Delaware Valley was born. At
that time, Bob and his wife Doris shared one desk and one adding machine. The company
opened it's doors on September 22, 1959. When Bob started Delaware Valley over
years ago, he had no idea his dream would grow into what it has become today:
one of the largest floral distribution and logistics companies in the United States. Pride, integrity and
commitment were not just words to Bob, they were a creed by which he lived his life. Our
time on this earth very much parallels the life of a flower. A flower grows, blossoms and
eventually withers and dies, as we all must do, but while it is with us, it makes the
world a more beautiful place. As Bob Wilkins grew, blossomed and fulfilled his dream, he
continually enriched the lives of his family, his employees, and his many friends. He will
be sadly missed by all whose lives he touched. Memories are truly preservatives of the
heart which is where Bob will live forever and his floral legacy will never fade.Bob is
survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris, two sons, Robert M. Wilkins and John R. Wilkins,
three grandchildren, Bonnie Dewey, Kenneth R. Wilkins and John Scott Wilkins, and six
great grandchildren. |
