Safety Manager

The overall purpose of this position is to administer and direct the Safety, Fleet Safety and Environmental Programs for all company locations.  Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and Hazardous Materials regulations and laws. Responsible for instituting proactive measures to identify hazards and regulatory non-compliance, for identifying trends or opportunities to reduce worker’s compensation (WC), and auto liability (AL) as well as assist with claims management. 

Essential Functions:

  1. Develop and implement safety initiatives and safety programs, focusing on both proactive and reactive risk management programs.
  2. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government safety requirements and reporting.
  3. FMCSA and CSA monitoring and reporting of changes, status of events, etc.
  4. Partner with leaders in reviewing/analyzing safety & operational results, advising and participating in setting direction and future strategies.
  5. Maintain and implement updated Emergency Action Plan.
  6. Deliver or assist with New Hire Safety/Risk Training, annual Risk/ Safety training, remedial Safety Training, First Aid/CPR and AED training.
  7. Develop and report KPI’s (incident rate, etc.)
  8. Monitor and confirm safety conditions by conducting internal audits and managing communication and relationships with external auditors.
  9. Enforce and support all company policies and procedures in regards to the company’s commitment to safety.
  10. Coordinate claims reporting of all vehicle & Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) accidents, WC injuries & illnesses, and GL/products liability within 24 hours.
  11. Investigate accidents, question witnesses and employees to determine causes of accidents. Report or review findings from accident investigations.
  12. Monitor and evaluate driver performance for the proper handling of cargo and operation of equipment through focused assessments, including ride-alongs.
  13. Facilitate safety committee meetings and related activities including minutes and corrective action documentation.
  14. Coordinate job hazard assessments and recommend measures to control exposures, including substitution of less hazardous materials, use of PPE (personal protective equipment), work practice changes and engineering controls.
  15. Work with Human Resources and Managers to manage the facility return to work program and help obtain written medical disposition from physicians at the time of treatment to control the cost of lost work days.
  16. Other duties and projects as requested by your manager.

Job Requirements:

· 5 – 10 years experience preferred in Occupational Safety and Health/Fleet Safety/DOT.
· Experience in handling of WC, AL, and GL claims.
· Bachelor’s degree preferred.
· Professional certification preferred (e.g. CPP, CSP, ARM, etc.)
· Strong background in warehouse/distribution safety (OSHA), including powered industrial equipment.
· Strong background in DOT and FMCSA rules and regulations.
· History of effectively working in a team environment.

Maintenance Mechanic

Description:

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for routine general maintenance and repairs to all facets of the refrigerated warehouse, as well as performs complex day-to-day repairs on distribution center equipment. This position will also provide general maintenance and construction support to the distribution center office as needed.

DUTIES:

  • Perform general construction that involves the reconfiguration of offices, additions to buildings, etc.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs to all facets of the refrigeration equipment and distribution center equipment and machines, such as conveyor systems and material handling equipment.
  • Control the equipment set points to accommodate the needs of our customers and to maintain the quality of our product.
  • Ability to construct, disassemble, and repair storage equipment (i.e. pallet racking, CFR racking and shelving).
  • Ability to maintain, repair and troubleshoot electrical and plumbing problems.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Work directly with outside contractors as needed assuring all equipment is maintained allowing for continuous operation of distribution center.

FTL Dispatch Supervisor

Job Description:

This position is responsible for the effective management and coordination of the FTL fleet and equipment for pick-up and deliveries within the DVFG/FTL operational system. The individual will manage both the company drivers and owner operators to achieve maximum productivity, efficiency, cost reduction and a high level of on-time performance.

Essential Functions:

  1. Must be able to work Monday – Friday, 6:00 am to 3:00pm. Flexibility due to additional days/hours during peak periods is required.
  2. Assign drivers their work assignments on a daily basis and work with the operations staff to execute on the planned driver assignments. This will include both company drivers and owner operators.
  3. Prepare driver dispatch ledger with assignments and freight manifest for 3rd party deliveries.
  4. Dispatch drivers though good communication of the driver instructions both written and verbal.
  5. Responsible for the productivity of the drivers by properly scheduling the driver assignments.
  6. Monitor loads for on time delivery and provide our customers with timely notifications as needed.
  7. Coordinate any pertinent information with the DV distribution centers for pickup, deliveries and returns.
  8. Required to secure Broker loads by negotiating freight rates and detention charges to maximize revenue.
  9. Handle any equipment maintenance items including breakdowns and securing rental tractors when necessary which may happen after hours.
  10. Manage driver compliance for hours of service.
  11. Learn to be proficient in the company’s software and operating programs.
  12. Ensure all safety rules and company policies are followed consistently.
  13. Assist in administrative tasks which include billing and making appointments.
  14. Responsible for loading and counting freight when necessary.
  15. Spotting trailers in doors when necessary.

Required Education and Experience:

  1. CDL preferred.
  2. Knowledge of DOT regulations specifically hours of service, hazardous materials and CSA guidelines.
  3. Knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  4. Good geographical knowledge.
  5. Prior experience with forklift and pallet jack equipment preferred.
  6. Ability to successfully manage within deadlines.
  7. Strong problem solving and planning skills along with the ability to multi-task.
  8. Good math skills to calculate time and distance.
  9. Good computer skills with experience using Excel and Word documents
