Calling Flower-Lovers and Do-Gooders! Come One, Come All!

This Sunday, June 30th, will mark the 1st Annual (inter)National Lonely Bouquet Day. “What is The Lonely Bouquet?” you may be wondering. Let us, at DVFlora, explain just why we’re working as the East Coast/U.S. flower power fire-starter, to get readers, florists, flower-lovers, do-gooders, anyone, and everyone involved with this incredibly inspiring project. It’s the newest trend in the floral world. It’s simple. It’s heartwarming. It’s making its’ way, literally, across the globe. Don’t believe me? Take a look at this map!

First, how it works: The project it is very simple, really.

  • Create a bouquet—small or extravagant, let the creativity bloom. No effort is too small…everything from a jar of wildflowers to an artful arrangement is enough to put a smile on a stranger’s face
  • Decorate it with a cheerful “Take Me!” tag (download ours, or check out some examples here)
  • Leave it in a public place for a stranger to stumble upon and adopt
  • Snap some photos documenting your experience(s) to share with the world: #thelonelybouquet #dvflora
  • Walk away!

The results so far have been amazing. Since DVFlora started corresponding with Emily a few short weeks ago, her Lonely Bouquet Facebook page has jumped from just under 300 Likes to over 2,200 Likes and counting! Viral is the word that will soon be describing this movement. Promoting flowers aside, the project is a truly wonderful way to pay it forward, as it happily affects both the receiver and giver. For example, last week one of our Sales Associates put together an adorable little bouquet of sunflowers and gerrondos, took a stroll during her lunch break and left the bouquet on a park bench. Not even an hour later, our Facebook was hit with a photo and thank you message from a very happy young lady who just happened to be having a bad day. The fact that such a simple act of kindness has taken off so greatly in a short amount of time says wonderful things about the impact of social media across the entire world. It is an awesome way to not only get your shop some serious attention, but to get people all over the world excited about flowers!

How it began:
Last year, our new friend, Emily, began leaving bouquets that she created at her shop, in public places for complete strangers to pick up. She would leave a small note on each bouquet, explaining that she was simply looking to brighten someone’s day with a heartfelt gesture and a few flowers—her passion. She documented every single bouquet she left behind, and very quickly began inspiring hundreds upon hundreds of florists, and non-florists alike, to follow in her footsteps. Fast-forward 1 year, and here she is, seeing results in Belgium, Australia, Finland, Africa, London, Spain, California, and now, thanks to a little social media magic and excited flower-lovers here at DVFlora, up and down the East Coast (just to name a few)!

How you can help:
The only true goal behind The Lonely Bouquet is to make someone’s day with the use of flowers. Emily and her friends here at DVFlora and Flirty Fleurs would be more than delighted, excited, grateful, any other adjective or adverb you can think of, if you (yes, you) got involved. Whether it’s one bouquet on Sunday, June 30th, or one bouquet a week for the rest of the year, we would love to have you join us by:

  • Taking part in The 1st Annual (inter)National Lonely Bouquet Day
  • Staying involved with Lonely Bouquet participation throughout the year to keep the flower power going
  • Getting yourself, your business, your friends, your family, your neighbors, etc. involved, too! The more, the merrier!
  • Tracking your adventures with photos and/or videos
  • Sharing your photos and videos by tagging #thelonelybouquet and #dvflora across Facebook, Instagram & Twitter
  • E-mailing us your your stories
  • Supporting your local florists

Be sure to stay tuned to DVFlora and FlirtyFleurs.com for some follow-up stories about (inter)National Lonely Bouquet Day! If you have any questions or would like some more details, please let us know! On behalf of DVFlora and our kind-hearted friend Emily of The Lonely Boquet, please have fun spreading smiles…one stem at a time!

Cheers,
Shea Kucenski & DVFlora
