Roses

It’s still a CRAZY market! Pricing and availability are relentless. With demand dropping dramatically the week going into July 4th, we expect we’ll see some relief the week after next.

Colors– for the past 3 weeks, price have risen each week and have hit their all time high this week and next. We will have good inventory for all colors but some varieties will be problematic.

Reds– prices are still good. Not too low, not too high.

Garden Roses– for the most part, no problems here. Still a busy market but for the most part, but we don’t see problems filling most orders.

Spray Roses–There are serious shortages with most colors. It is important to be flexible and buy by color, not by specific variety There is not much available in the market but we expect our overall inventory for next week will be good enough.

Novelties

Stock– All of the stock growers in California are waiting for the transition to their summer fields and supply is extremely limited. As always, the first colors to bloom are the darker colors, purple, mid blue, lavenders and fuchsia. Unfortunately it is wedding season, and the demand is for white, peach, light pink and creams. You can expect extreme shortages in all stock but especially peach and light pink. This will to continue through next week and into the following. Prices are up for this week and growers make us buy all colors, not just the peach and white and pinks, so please try to use other colors as well.

Larkspur– Availability is winding down in the Baja. The demand for larkspur has been sporadic and not what we would expect. It is possible that we will come up short next week especially white.

Bells of Ireland – Good quality bells are hard to find. We may see some shortages in the weeks to come as the weather in South America will affect the supply.

Dianthus– We will start to see a decline in some of the varieties of dianthus beginning this week. There is a good supply of Amazon cherry, light pink and purple but the sweet varieties will come to an end- burgundy, black cherry, coral, white, red scarlet and pink rose. The Sweet varieties are not suitable to grow in the summer heat.

Ranunculus– We will start to see more ranunculus from Chile in a few weeks. Right now we are only getting a very small amount of light pink and white. Ecuador is very limited and the quality has been hit and miss. Chances are if you don’t get your orders in a week early you will be too late. Only one grower of our growers has had significant production of ranunculus. We were able to buy a good amount of white at a good price this week, but that will end soon. In the mean time, they have raised their price significantly on all colors, so be aware that prices are high.

Sunflowers– Demand is picking up but poor weather in Ecuador has really hindered production of our DV Flora Vincent and Sunbright sunflowers. The weather has affected all of the growers in Ecuador and the supply is very limited. Luckily we are able to get more from California and Local production is starting to kick in.

Carnations, Mini Carnations and Gyp – Unfortunately there has been little change in the market on these items. Production is still very poor, so availability will continue to be limited and pricing will remain high for a few more weeks.

White Mist Foliage– There was a good response to these items at a show a few weeks ago so we will be carrying some of them for Wedding season and also for December. For this wee we will have Salal and Boxwood (pictured below), Tree Fern, and a Greens Bouquet. They will also be available as a Special Order as will some Garlands with this treatment. Order by Monday for the following week.
